The practical answer
Match the certificate to the offered lot, then read the methods and results separately for purity, identity, quantity, and any required microbiological tests. Chemical purity does not establish sterility or endotoxin status, and peptide content is distinct from purity. Record missing evidence rather than treating a headline percentage as a complete assessment.

A certificate of analysis is useful only when you can connect the document to the material being considered. Our suggested first step is to record the supplier, product identifier, lot identifier, report identifier, testing date, and issuing laboratory. Compare these with the quotation and, upon receipt, the container label. An attractive example certificate is not evidence about a different lot.

- Save the complete report and its source URL, with your review date.
- Mark a missing or mismatched lot identifier as unresolved.
- Ask whether the report covers the lot that would actually ship.
Keep four questions separate

Read the analytical result in context
Thermo Fisher describes mass spectrometry as adding information to HPLC-UV workflows for detecting and quantifying synthesis impurities. Record the actual technique and result rather than translating a generic 'tested' badge into an identity conclusion. Ask the laboratory what the reported identity test establishes and what remains outside its scope.
Merck's Peptide Quick Tips distinguishes gross peptide weight, which can include salts, counterions, residual solvents, and water, from net peptide content. It explicitly separates content from purity. For procurement, ask which quantity the quotation guarantees; do not silently convert a purity percentage into a guaranteed amount of target material.
A chemical result does not answer a microbiology question
FDA's Bacterial Endotoxins/Pyrogens technical guide explains that endotoxins can remain after sterilization and discusses endotoxin reduction separately. This supports a narrow distinction: sterility and endotoxin control are separate questions, and neither follows from an HPLC purity result. The FDA source concerns regulated manufacturing; it does not certify any research supplier or establish suitability for human use.
Our document decision rule: record each required attribute as documented, missing, or requiring clarification. If a required attribute is missing, keep the lot on hold within your purchasing workflow. A completed checklist records evidence reviewed; it is not a safety certification.
